With popular Tamil newsweekly magazine, Thuglak completing 50 years today, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth will be attending a function at Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai at 6 pm. During the event, a volume recalling the works the late Cho Ramaswamy, the founder and editor of the magazine and Thuglak will be released by the Vice President, with the first copy being presented to Rajini. A pre-recorded message by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be played at the start of the event. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu concluded his speech with a Bharathiyar quote in Tamil, "30 crore faces, 18 languages, still the thinking is one. Addressing the audience during the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Tughlak magazine, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said, "Cho Ramaswamy was a multi-faceted genius who left a print in the world of journalism, drama, law, politics, literature and sanathana dharma.

Trichy city police arrested the owner of a monthly Tamil magazine on charges of threatening to defame a jewellery firm and demanding Rs 10 lakh, here on Saturday night.
Editor of the Tamil magazine, Thuglak, S Gurumurthy has been summoned on June 28 by the Arumughaswamy commission which is probing the circumstances surrounding former chief minister J Jayalalithaa's death. The matter relates to an article published by a Tamil magazine dated August 8, , in which it was alleged that at the instance of Sasikala the then chief minister J Jayalalithaa removed Sengottaiyan as minister, following which the City Public Prosecutor filed a defamation case.

He was the editor of the magazine until his death and has penned several columns. The name of the magazine and its mascot draws from Muhammad bin Thuglak , Sultan of Delhi , on whom in , the founder staged a play  and later the movie Muhammad bin Tughluq. The founder directed and plays the lead — in the movie and the play. It was conducted under the banner of Viveka Fine Arts Club. After Cho Ramaswamy 's death Swaminathan Gurumurthy took over the editorial post.
