If you're interested in Schiaparelli, this is a good book to buy. She's extremely full of herself and that gets annoying at times, but the narrative reads well and it's interesting for the most part. I really enjoyed this book. It took a bit to get used to her writing style but worth the effort.

She surprised me by her "service" during WW2 and lots of interesting and sometimes sad bits. As a francophile I may have been more inclined to enjoy her love of France and talking about Paris. If you too love them then you will enjoy this book. Not an easy read and one must know a bit about history from that era, but I recommend it to those interested. I loved the purchase, the book was very old, but it the original first edition with hardcover!

The book is quite charming and funny, but I would also like to know more about the fashion Elsa was creating. Real story of a magnificent designer which inspires to be true to your art and caft and to keep moving forward in life to meet your goals and live your dreams. Good read! Go to Amazon. Back to top. Like Picasso, this short, magnetic, dark-haired Mediterranean woman captivated prewar society with her creative ferocity. Newly wrapped in a silver jacket with hot-pink type, the reissued memoir offers a wry reminder that when it comes to fashion, larger-than-life personalities, celebrity clients, and global branding are nothing new. Born in Italy in to a titled mother and a father who was a scholar of Middle Eastern languages and literature, Schiap displayed a streak of contrariness early on, running away at the age of six. She implies that her mother inadvertently gave her the impetus for her career by telling the young girl that she was as ugly as her older sister was attractive. At twenty-two, while visiting London, she met Count William de Wendt de Kerlor, whom she married within twenty-four hours.
