DOI: Glass can be considered to be a high-technology engineering material with a multifunctional potential for structural applications. However, the conventional approach to the use of glass is often based only on its properties of transparency and isolation. It is thus highly appropriate and necessary to study the mechanical behaviour of this material and to develop adequate methods and models leading to its characterisation.

We produce double glazing under the brand SGG Climalit, with recognised quality, since the glass is produced according to the production and quality control process defined by Saint Gobain Glass. The leakproofness of this set is ensured by a secondary double sealing system. Double glazing has excellent thermal and acoustic insulating properties, when compared with single glazing. The application of high selectivity glass as a component of double glazing significantly increases the solar and thermal performance of double glazing.

A blind can be incorporated in the inner space between the 2 panes of glass that form the double glazing. The blind controller can be manual or automatic. Triple glazing has better thermal insulating properties than double glazing.

It is a safety glass that consists of two or more single glazing joined by a layer of plastic material of polyvinyl butyral or EVA. These materials were chosen due to their outstanding qualities of resistance, adherence and elasticity. The bonding process between the butyral and the panes of glass takes place under thermal and pressure treatment.

The obtained product has the same transparency as any other glass with the same thickness. In case of breakage, the fragments of glass are held in place by the butyral and kept together inside the frame, which promotes safety and prevents entrance through the glass. Different units with different characteristics can be obtained if nature, number and thickness of its components are changed. The resistance can vary in order to provide physical safety or even ballistic protection. Then, the two sides of the glass undergo a sudden cooling through air and pressure.

With this process, we are trying to achieve a glass with high mechanical and thermal performances, without changing the lighting and energy characteristics of the base product. This process gives the glass a resistance 5 times higher than the annealed glass with the same thickness. The glass is converted into a high safety material for construction; the resistance is increased and the characteristic of fragmentation into granular chunks is added.

The main characteristics of tempered glass are the following:. Heat Soak Testing is a thermal process that complements the tempering process and it is used to eliminate the glass that carries the risk of spontaneous breakage due to nickel sulphide inclusion. Heat strengthened glass is a product subjected to a specific treatment in the tempering furnace. This treatment increases twice the mechanical resistance of the monolithic glass.

This product breaks into larger fragments than tempered glass. Curve glass results from the heating of flat glass until the plasticity point is reached, out of which, the glass wanted form is done through moulding. One of the advantages of curve glass is the flexible forms that can be made. We produced tempered curve glass. It is possible to safely reproduce photos, illustrations, logos, imprints, textures and drawings with the highest definition quality.
